MIC CARLSON WITH BRONZE STATUE

Bronze sculptor Mic Carlson was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1965. He has operated his own galleries in Grand Rapids and Saugatuck, Michigan. He has had 4 exhibitions in Italy, including a month-long exhibition at the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi, Italy. He displayed 16 bronze statues telling the story of St. Francis of Assisi. His wife Susan Evangelista has added a major spark to Mic's career, not only in her countless support but also documenting his creations and exhibitions on video for the best of 20 years. Mic also presented Pope Benedict with a bronze sculpture of St. Francis at the Vatican in 2008.

Mic has many public paintings throughout Grand Rapids and has worked for many private collectors. His West Michigan bronze statues include a seven-foot “Madonna of the Streets” located in the Garden of Life on Bridge Street, "Christ at the Pillar’” a seven-foot bronze at Holy Redeemer in Jenison, "Living Cross”, a 13-foot bronze cross at Cascade Christian Church in Ada, Officer Robert Kozminski bronze located at Richmond Park. In early 2018, Mic unveiled his largest monument in front of the Basilica of St. Adalbert of "Jesus and the Children." Recently, Mic was also commissioned to create nine bronze meerkats for John Ball Zoo.

Mic is an inventor working with many industrial casting and woodworking materials, and is also a professional mold maker, working in silicones and plasters, plastics, and urethanes. He does professional restoration work on broken sculptures, paintings, old frames, and reproductions.

As founder, sculptor, and volunteer fundraiser for the Saint Francis Sculpture Garden, a Michigan-based not-for-profit organization, Mic has helped build and maintain an 11-acre sculpture garden on a protected green space a few miles from downtown Grand Rapids which features a collection of 24 of his bronze statues. This healing garden is free to the public and is barrier-free for the disabled.

Mic donates year-round to many charitable organizations. His studio is located in Grand Rapids Michigan. He owned and operated my own two art galleries in downtown Grand Rapids and has also had galleries in Saugatuck, Michigan.
